Home Remedies: A Guide To Treating Those Noticeable Scars
Your little one fell off his bike and scrapped his knee. You finally popped that annoying pimple that just would not go away. The cat scratched your neighbor who was visiting. What is the ending result of these three scenarios? If you said, “A wound,” you are absolutely correct. And when the wound heals, a permanent ugly and extremely apparent scar develops. However, it does not need to be so noticeable because there are fortunately ways to treat scars and get the area on your skin looking a little normal again. Here, we will be looking at a few scars remedies, but first let’s learn about the science behind a scar.

The Scientific Makeup of a Scar
All skin cells are connected by an extracellular matrix (ECM), which transports necessary nutrients around the skin and holds the cells together. These are consequently considered healthy skin cells and are made of proteins called collagen. When a wound results from a scrape, the extracellular matrix’s organized structure is unfortunately disrupted. As the wound begins to heal, the damaged and disorganized skin tissues, called fibrous tissue, form a straight-line weave appearance, known as the scar. Because these skin cells are now damaged, it is unable to properly function, and therefore the normal production of collagen and ECM is taken off course (Weller, 2016). What can we do about these disgusting highly noticeable marks? The answer is to use natural home remedies, which are effective in making them less noticeable.

The Home Scars Remedies

Remedy #1: Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera consists of anti-inflammatory properties that helps scars fight off dead skin cells. Because it infiltrates deep in the skin, it helps in the production of collagen in your skin, which then brings on the healing process. Begin by peeling the outer cover off of the Aloe Vera leaf and take out the gel. Apply the gel to the area for thirty minutes and wash it off after. Do this twice daily.

Remedy #2: Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains vitamin E, an antioxidant, that speeds up the healing time. Within coconut oil are lauric, caprylic and capric acids that generate collagen production, thus helps in the healing of already damaged skin. This remedy is recommended two to four times per day. Start the process by heating a small amount of extra-virgin coconut oil to turn it into a liquid substance. Pour the warm oil in your hand and massage it on the area in a circular motion for five to ten minutes. Allow it to stay on the area for approximately one hour.

Remedy #3: Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter has always been known to be an effective skin moisturizer, which is why it can be used to heal that unwanted scar. It gets deep within the skin and assists in the growth of new skin tissues, getting rid of the damaged ones. In no time that particular noticeable mark will be lighter and less apparent. Massage a spoonful of cocoa butter on the area, leaving it on overnight. The next morning, wash it off with a damp washcloth. It is suggested to repeat daily until most of the scar’s appearance disappears.

Remedy #4: Olive Oil
Olive oil is a natural substance that contains Vitamin E. By assisting in keeping the skin moisturized, it stimulates the healing process in damaged skin. All you do is spread the extra-virgin olive oil to the area and rub it in using circular motions. After thirty minutes wipe it off. However, if you want, you can also leave it on overnight.

Remedy #5: Banana
Banana contain nutrients such as vitamins B6 and B12. The banana peel is also known for its skin care benefits. Amazingly, the banana’s potassium and antioxidants that are composed in the peel assist in the healing process, and therefore lessening the appearance of the mark (Foster, 2016). Peel the banana peel off and using one of the strips, bend it over so the inner white part is touching the affected area and rub the moisture on. Finally, use a warm damp cloth to remove any excess particles off of your skin.

Remedy #6: Honey
Honey has always been known to be a natural moisturizer. Consequently, it puts a stop to dead skin cells accumulating, and revitalizes the healthy skin tissue. Use this remedy by applying honey on the affected area and covering it with a bandage. Leave it on overnight and the next morning wash the area with warm water.

Remedy #7: Apple Cider Vinegar
Because of the acid in apple cider vinegar, the dead skin cells of the scar begins to shed, reducing its appearance. Your skin’s pH level also begins to balance once again. Mix together equal amounts of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and water. After applying the solution to the scar, leave it on for approximately five minutes, followed by rinsing it off with warm water. This should be done once per day.

Remedy #8: Cucumber
We all know that cucumbers are commonly used for facials. It can also be used for scar treatments. Because cucumbers are composed of ninety percent water, it softens and hydrates the skin and is effective for helping a scar. Begin this home remedy by removing the seeds from the center and blending three to four cucumbers with a few mint leaves and one teaspoon of lemon juice. In a separate bowl, crack an egg, beat thoroughly, and add the blended substance to the egg. After shaking the substance gently, rub the mixture on the affected area. Allow it to dry for twenty minutes and wash the area off with warm water (New Health Guide, 2014).

The appearance of a scar can be very embarrassing. No one enjoys them because of their extremely noticeable appearance. But with these home remedies, hopefully those dark marks can become less apparent, and decrease the shame that it puts in people.
